The Friends of Christine Stoddart is the organization that our family has established to keep the memory of Christine alive. While growing up in Port Jefferson and attending school at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School she spent much of her time either on the field playing Field Hockey and Softball or on the court playing Basketball and Volleyball. When she was not playing she could be found watching her Dad Coach Varsity Soccer, Bowling and Girls' Softball or officiated as a Christine shared her love for sports at North Shore Day Camp where she worked as a counselor and after camp worked with her Dad teaching children to swim.
A 1981 graduate of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School, she earned nine varsity letters earning her the prestigious NYSPHASS Gold Key Award which is presented to athletes who have at the end of their high school careers, participated in intramurals, varsity and junior varsity sports, and demonstrate leadership skills. Recipients of the Gold Key Award must consistently contribute to the athletic community in their school throughout the four year High School span. This key was worn by Christine with honor. Christine gave the Gold Key to her niece, Holly, for her accomplishments in bowling.
Christine graduated from Suffolk County Community College with an associate of arts degree in criminal justice, a bachelors degree in political science and a master's degree from C.W Post. She was employed by the NYC Department of Transportation and Transit Authority for 20 years from where she retired as an assistant chief.
Through the Friends of Christine Stoddart it is our aspiration to keep Christine's memory alive by awarding a yearly scholarship to a graduating senior who exhibits the same attributes and characteristics which made Christine such a unique young woman and to refurbish the ELVHS girls' team locker room.
